Metabolic Care That Looks Beyond the Numbers
Upstate Metabolic Health provides thoughtful, evidence-based care for patients navigating weight concerns, insulin resistance, diabetes, hormonal changes, fatigue, and other metabolic health challenges. Dr. Karen Zanni takes time to understand the factors beneath your symptoms, explain what your body may be communicating, and create a personalized plan that supports lasting health—not just short-term change.

“I created Upstate Metabolic Health because too many people are told to eat less, move more, or accept that their results are ‘normal’ even when they know something does not feel right.”

MEET THE PROVIDER
Karen Zanni, PhD, FNP-BC
Karen Zanni believes meaningful healthcare begins with understanding the whole person—not simply treating a diagnosis. She founded Upstate Metabolic Health to create a practice where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their health. Every visit is designed to provide the time, education, and support needed to build a personalized plan that is both realistic and sustainable.
As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a PhD, Dr. Zanni brings extensive experience in primary care, endocrinology, obesity medicine, chronic disease management, and preventive health. Comprehensive Weight Management
Weight is only one piece of the metabolic health puzzle. Dr. Karen Zanni takes a personalized, science-backed approach that looks beyond calories to understand how hormones, nutrition, sleep, stress, activity, and underlying medical conditions influence your health. Together, you’ll build a realistic plan designed for sustainable, long-term success.

GLP-1 & Advanced Metabolic Therapies

How It Works
1
Book an Appointment
Choose a secure appointment and complete your intake information before the visit. New patient appointments are scheduled for approximately 60 minutes so there is time to discuss your history, concerns, and goals.
2
Your Visit
You will meet directly with Dr. Zanni for a thorough conversation. Together, you will review your symptoms, previous efforts, medications, laboratory history, routines, and the health changes you would most like to make.
3
Follow-Up & Ongoing Care
You will receive a personalized plan with clear next steps. Follow-up visits may include laboratory review, medication adjustments, nutrition and lifestyle support, progress monitoring, and continued refinement of your care strategy.

Why Upstate Metabolic Health?
More Time to Understand the Full Picture
Metabolic concerns are rarely explained by a single number or symptom. Longer visits allow space to ask better questions, identify patterns, and understand what may be happening beneath the surface.
Evidence With a Human Perspective
Care is grounded in clinical evidence and informed by Dr. Zanni’s experience in primary care, obesity medicine, endocrinology, research, and chronic disease management—without losing the conversation that makes care personal.
Medication as One Part of the Plan
When medication is appropriate, it is paired with practical support for nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and long-term metabolic health rather than treated as a stand-alone answer.
A Collaborative Long-Term Partnership
You are not expected to follow instructions without understanding them. Dr. Zanni explains the reasoning behind each recommendation so you can participate confidently in decisions about your care.
